Day Trip from Lucca in Tuscany

Cinque Terre is the star of the Italian Riviera, the five fishing villages are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Manarola, Corniglia and Riomaggiore, each one is more charming than the next. There are a million reasons to be enchanted by this remarkable part of the Italian coastline. Colorful coast with houses that climb to the cliffsides, bays and small beaches, terraced vineyards climbing up from the sea.

Cinque Terre means crystal clear waters, laid-back coastal towns, picturesque landscapes with colorful homes, amazing hikes and great food.

These five towns were originally fishing villages and that tradition remains strong in the cuisine of the Cinque Terre. Anchovies have been the primary staple since Roman times. Don’t be afraid, they are delicious. the pasta sauce that is most representative of the Liguria region is Pesto sauce. Dark green and aromatic, it is the essence of summer… and don’t forget Limoncello!

What’s Included in Our Private Day Tour in Cinque Terre by Boat

This is one of the most beautiful experiences to have when you are in Tuscany. After the pick up from your accommodation, you will be on board of a Mercedes Minivan destination the Cinque Terre park.

We will begin from the first village, Manarola, and we will take the boat or train (depending on the weather) to the next villages, visiting Riomaggiore with the incredible Marina, Vernazza, with its natural bay, placed in the centre of the national park and we will end up in Monterosso, the last village famous for the anchovies and limoncello.

This tour allows you to see the lifestyle of this charming piece of coast, tasting the regional food in the typical restaurants facing the Mediterranean sea.

Riomaggiore

Riomaggiore is probably best known for its colorful marina and the unique harbor. The oldest houses follow the traditional tower-shaped architecture, a picturesque fishing village with tall, narrow, pastel-colored houses and alternating light and darkness coming from the tight alleyways.

It has one main street, a harbor, a rocky beach, a castle and a church. The village is famous for its bars and restaurants and offers some of the freshest seafood in the area.

The castle, once used as a lookout for Saracen incursions, now offers lodging and facilities for didactic events.

Manarola

Manarola is picture perfect and is the oldest of the five towns, the marina has a rocky coastline with crystal clear water. This ancient Roman town huddles atop a headland of dark rock. The church is dedicated to the Nativity, and its bell tower was originally used as a lookout post.

In December, a Nativity scene with 300 life-sized statues (made from recycled materials) attracts visitors from across Italy.

Corniglia

Corniglia is different from the other towns in that it is perched up high up on a hill. Perched above the water but without access to it, Corniglia atypically lacks a port. As a result, it has long depended solely on agriculture and wine production.

Its urban layout is thus reminiscent of inland villages, with low houses along the main road. Its church, San Pietro, is one of the most interesting Romano-Gothic monuments in the Cinque Terre.

Vernazza

Vernazza is the most dramatic and picturesque of Cinque Terre. The Doria Castle is a tower built in the 15th century to protect the village from pirates. Vernazza is surrounded by lush vineyards and olive oil trees, two important industries for the region in addition to fishing.

Vernazza is probably the most photographed village of the Cinque Terre. The only town with a natural port, it has been in the hands of various Genoese families throughout history.

Monterosso

Monterosso is the largest of the five villages of Cinque Terre and is divided by a central tunnel that connects the Old Town and the New Town. It is also the most extensive sand beach of the five villages and is well used by tourists and locals alike

The town is also famous because of its lemon trees, grapes, olives, olive oil, and white wines. You can also try the tasty Gelato in some of the Gelateria that you can find in the town.
